The increasingly severe climate brought out close to 200 protesters at a rally on Queen’s University’s campus Friday afternoon.
The climate strike was part of a global series of similar actions at 400 locations around the world designed to draw attention to climate change.
The local protest was organized by Queen’s Backing Action on the Climate Crisis (QBACC) and Seniors for Climate Action Now! and supported by other organizations, including Queen’s University Faculty Association, No Clearcuts Kingston, Kingston and District Labour Council, Just Recovery Kingston, Kingston Youth Climate Action, and Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation.
“Canada’s been on fire this summer,” Siena Margorian of QBACC said. “Yet the impacts of climate breakdown have been felt around the world for decades. The greed of fossil fuel companies and the banks that shovel money their way has created the world that my generation is inheriting.”
